4 factors affecting the birth of a boy or a girl

Studies show that age, lifestyle habits, mental state and living environment can affect whether a mother will have a boy or a girl.

Age

Studies show that a man's sperm count decreases with age. The older the father, the higher the chance of having a daughter. Similarly, the older the mother, the amount of alkaline secretions in the uterus will gradually decrease due to the effects of the aging process, so the chances of having a girl also increase significantly. Therefore, older couples are more likely to have girls than younger couples.

A British study found that for every 5 years a couple increases, their chances of having a girl increase by 1%. Men aged 25-29 give birth to more boys than girls, while men over the age of 29 give birth to more girls than boys.

Smoke

Japanese and Danish scientists have shown that couples who smoke before and after conception are less likely to have a boy. If the father smokes more than 20 cigarettes per day and the mother does not smoke, the probability of having a daughter is much higher than that of a son. If both husband and wife smoke, the chances of having a boy are lower.

Mind status

Research published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America (PNAS) shows that women who experience physical and emotional stress during pregnancy are less likely to have a boy.

The study was conducted on 187 healthy pregnant women, aged 18 to 45 years. Among them, about 66.8% of pregnant women are mentally relaxed, not stressed, while 17.1% are considered to have psychological stress, such as anxiety, depression; about 16% of people are considered stressed on a physical level. The researchers found that women in the latter two groups had more girls than the first group.

Researchers estimate that about 30 percent of pregnant women, who have previously experienced work or psychological stress, are related to depression and anxiety. This stress is associated with a higher risk of preterm birth and higher rates of infant mortality and morbidity. In addition, their child may have central nervous system problems, such as developmental delays.

Environmental contaminant

In a study, scientists at the University of Chicago, USA examined medical record data based on factors such as environmental quality index, temperature ... of 150 million Americans over 8 years. and 9 million Swedes over 30 years. Certain pollutants, such as mercury pollution, near industrial plants, the researchers found, can change the sex ratio by as much as 3 percent. For example, areas with higher mercury exposure tend to have more boys, while areas with higher soil lead levels have higher rates of girls.
